This has been discussed a hundred times in these comments, but here's a portion of a comment I just made on the latest page . . .

--------------------------
It's one of the stupidest things ever to say that geisha are not prostitutes. As I said before, that's like saying priests don't molest children. Exact same logic. Do you people seriously think all geisha throughout history are PERFECT and never did anything wrong??? Once again --

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
----------------------

Why would this scene possibly upset you? For one, the word "geisha" is never mentioned in the comic. For another, are you actually telling me that you think NEVER IN HISTORY, NOT EVEN ONCE, did a geisha work as a prostitute??? If so, you're completely out of your mind. And you can't even spell "disappointed," but you're complaining about Western ignorance because someone in the West actually has common sense and knows that not everyone in the world is perfect and always does exactly what they're supposed to at all times. I wonder what other things you might have a crazy misunderstanding about. Is it just about Japanese culture? Do you also think that no one in Japan has ever stolen a car maybe?

Re: DREAMLESS

Thank you! Oiran (the whores that the geisha worked for) died out a long time ago tho, so no whores dressed like Geisha until AFTER WWII when the Geisha system fell during the war. The fact that common whores wore pretty yukata and not kimono and did their makeup like the the geisha to make money off of the american soldiers during the rebuilding period lead the west to think that geisha are whores, and that is not the case at all. This scene just upsets me really badly.

Re: DREAMLESS

Geisha are not prostitutes. Do some research.

Oiran were prostitutes, and there are distinct differences between a Geisha's clothing and an Oiran's clothing as well as their duties and positions. I really loved this comic until this point, because it only shows Western ignorance now.

Re: DREAMLESS

This is not limited to Japanese guys. Although personally I've noticed that I actually nap better sitting up someplace bustling than lying down someplace quiet.

It's still pretty impressive that he can fall asleep in the situation he's in, either way. And the "I'm not. Please be quiet." was funny. If she's dressing and presenting as a woman, you should refer to HER as a SHE and as woman. Geez, the last thing I wanted to do was find silly comments like that on such a great webcomic as is this one.

Other than that, I think Takashi's friends are hilarious!!!!

Re: DREAMLESS

I daresay, how they dress doesn't really make a difference... I mean, you can have either one of the other - you can choose to define them by how they dress, or what they do. I think the latter is more important. Judging by the fact there's only a bed in there, I'd personally say it's a prostitute.

But really. I wouldn't judge clothes, as was said by Bobby earlier, it's not as if all "geisha" weren't prostitutes, even 'real' geisha may have prostituted themselves at times, as well as existing those prostitutes who dressed as geisha. I think it's all a little bit irrelevant to try and compare the clothing to try and figure it out.

Re: DREAMLESS

I wish I could fall asleep as fast as them! :)
Great page!

Re: DREAMLESS

I think we've determined she's a prostitute, so if her clothes are too plain to be that of a regular geisha it's understandable.
Her sleeves are short, like that of an older woman, not necessarily married.
She resembles a geisha and there's nothing but a bed in her room. She's a prostitute, bo doubt in my mind.

Re: DREAMLESS

Maybe she's just not a very expensive geisha... hence her looking man-ish and having a less than extravagant robe.
