    Page 34: Not Tired

    That doesn't look comfortable.
  • Chuck · 2 months ago
Awww he's so concerned about Elenor.
  • SmilingSilly · 2 months ago
I think he might also be concerned what she would think upon finding him tied up in a room with a prostitute.
  • AWickedMemory · 2 months ago
    YAY, AN UPDATE!

Awwwwwww! So cute! All he thinks of is Elenor...

I love the geisha's perplexed "..." in the last panel. XD
  • OkamiTaka · 2 months ago
imagine the embarrassment he would experience should Elenor find out what his friends 'gave' him.
  • tapster · 2 months ago
Wow, there was a comment on the last page that kinda fortold this. Well. Amazing page! I love her face in the last panel.
  • Philip Horger · 2 months ago
Well, she seems nice. She'd probably understand his predicament, though I wouldn't blame him if he decided not to trust his secret with a complete stranger.
  • yay · 2 months ago
    YAY.
  • Name · 2 months ago
He seems so determined to go to sleep he forgot to ask her to untie him!

If he has school the next day, then he can use that as an excuse to go to sleep right then.

I hope that his friends will be nice enough to bring him back home the next day though. It seems like they took him pretty far away.
  • Persephoniii · 2 months ago
I LOVE Takashi. "I'm not. Please be quiet" WOW. He just goes through what has to be a rather nerve wrecking ordeal and he still only thinks of Elanor. He's such a sweetheart. This has, without a doubt, got to be my favorite webcomic. I've never had any reason to look forward to Monday's but now I do. Great job, guys. The story and art are engaging, and it's hard to find a comic now-a-days that has both.

I just noticed the geiko's silhouette looks different on the previous page than on this page. She seemed to have two kanzashi in her bun on the silhouette, but on this page she doesn't. Or maybe she took them out? lol.
  • PantlessProphet · 2 months ago
Yeah, I caught that too. It seems to be off.
  • Ter · 2 months ago
I don't know about you guys, but the geisha looks like a guy to me.

But I agree with the others about Takashi.
  • LazerWulf · 2 months ago
By girl on the telephone, I'm assuming you mean this:

  • Alise · 2 months ago
:) So cute. Hope she's okay.
  • Andrea · 2 months ago
The prostitute's forearm is really skinny in the last panel, so I'm pretty sure she's a girl.

Yay! Takashi wants to see what's up with Eleanor! Ooh, and this means we might get to see what's up with her too. I hope there's nothing misleading going on, just an innocent search for dad or a surprise party.
  • charles81 · 2 months ago
I wonder how deeply they can sleep. I mean I know they're probably very experienced at going to sleep on command but I wonder just how good they are at ignoring outside stimuli while they sleep.

...we do get a hint that they still control their own bodies, judging by Takashi's pursed lips when Elanor kissed him in the mirror and his concerned face when he saw her in the jeep but I wonder if they still feel everything that happens to their own body while they sleep. Takashi was obviously awoken by his friends grabbing him and then his rough removal from the car but would he respond so readily to a lighter touch or would he hear it if someone called his name while he's sleeping and receiving all of Elanor's sensory perceptions?

"I wonder if they still feel everything that happens to their own body while they sleep."

Less than regular people. It's tougher to wake them. But they're extremely good at waking up when they choose to.
  • Name · 2 months ago
Ok, if she was a prostitute her robe would tie in the front, and Sarah seems like she'd pay attention o a detail like that. Seems to me she's an actual geisha, not a whore.
  • DissappointedGuest · 3 weeks ago
Thank you! Oiran (the whores that the geisha worked for) died out a long time ago tho, so no whores dressed like Geisha until AFTER WWII when the Geisha system fell during the war. The fact that common whores wore pretty yukata and not kimono and did their makeup like the the geisha to make money off of the american soldiers during the rebuilding period lead the west to think that geisha are whores, and that is not the case at all. This scene just upsets me really badly.

"I love the geisha's perplexed "..." in the last panel. XD"

    I sure hope that's a perplexed "..." look and not a
"hmmm, I just had an idea" one.
  • Elle · 2 months ago
Meh, she shouldn't complain, getting paid to just... Do nothing seems pretty good. No doubt all prosties, whatever race, hate their job.
  • Cutiepie · 2 months ago
    Not necessarily
  • Rachel · 2 months ago
This one was actually kind of sweet... and unintentionally funny/ironic to me too. It reminded me of real life! Japanese guys always amaze me with their magical sleeping abilities. They'll go onto a crowded and noisy train, decide they want to take a nap, and be fast asleep one minute later! *L*
  • Garen · 2 months ago
This is not limited to Japanese guys. Although personally I've noticed that I actually nap better sitting up someplace bustling than lying down someplace quiet.

It's still pretty impressive that he can fall asleep in the situation he's in, either way. And the "I'm not. Please be quiet." was funny. Poor perplexed prostitute.
  • garfu · 2 months ago
I wonder if Takashi just really wants Eleanor not to see him in that situation. If they're both asleep they see nothing, right?

First time posting, so I just wanted to say that I love this comic. Sarah is an amazing artist, and Bobby's writing is excellent. Thanks for making this comic really come to life!
  • Novelsense · 2 months ago
I LOVE how she draws and colours the pages but...
The geisha does look a bit like a guy.
Maybe her face is too long.
I'm sorry for complaining about it! But geisha in my mind are at the top of looking feminine.
  • A.L. · 2 months ago
Getting even more interesting now.I pretty sure he thinks Eleanor is aware of what was transpiring but she seems to be in a bit of a situation herself.

@Reicheru-I have that knack from time to time, usually if I really am sleepy.Sometimes I'll be able to wake up a couple of hours later and go back to whatever I was doing like I was never tired to begin with.
  • Never Surprised · 2 months ago
    Is that a woman?

    Looks like a man.
  • TheWynne · 2 months ago
Aw, the hooker seems really nice and sweet. Unlike that creepy army guy Elanor's stuck with.
  • Desteni · 2 months ago
Is she just posing as a geisha? Her kimono looks more like a housewife's kimono than that of a geisha. Her sleeves are short like a married woman's and it's so dull-colored, not like the highly-patterned kimono I'm used to seeing on unmarried girls...I'm suspicious!
  • endaphia · 2 months ago
I think she doesn't look girlish because the makeup looks really heavy on her face. But she doesn't look bad, and I'd think she's female. Just the mask takes away a lot of the curves/contours that make a girl look female.
  • mitkamui · 2 months ago
Maybe she's just not a very expensive geisha... hence her looking man-ish and having a less than extravagant robe. After all, these are a buch of teenage guys pooling their money, how much could they really have?
  • sarasham · 2 months ago
I think we've determined she's a prostitute, so if her clothes are too plain to be that of a regular geisha it's understandable.
Her sleeves are short, like that of an older woman, not necessarily married.
She resembles a geisha and there's nothing but a bed in her room. She's a prostitute, bo doubt in my mind.
  • MiriamE · 2 months ago
I wish I could fall asleep as fast as them! :)
    Great page!
  • Barb · 2 months ago
I daresay, how they dress doesn't really make a difference... I mean, you can have either one of the other - you can choose to define them by how they dress, or what they do. I think the latter is more important. Judging by the fact there's only a bed in there, I'd personally say it's a prostitute.

But really. I wouldn't judge clothes, as was said by Bobby earlier, it's not as if all "geisha" weren't prostitutes, even 'real' geisha may have prostituted themselves at times, as well as existing those prostitutes who dressed as geisha. I think it's all a little bit irrelevant to try and compare the clothing to try and figure it out.
  • Aleksander · 2 months ago
I resent all those "She looks like a man" "is she a man?" comments. If she's dressing and presenting as a woman, you should refer to HER as a SHE and as woman. Geez, the last thing I wanted to do was find silly comments like that on such a great webcomic as is this one.

Other than that, I think Takashi's friends are hilarious!!!!

    Cold, Takashi. Real cold.

Awesome page as usual, well worth the wait.
  • Silver Midnight · 2 months ago
She doesn't look like a man, Japanese women have rounder features and typically shorter eyelashes than most Caucasian do. Sarah Ellerton has done a wonderful job in portraying the racial differences.
  • Kyn · 2 months ago
The Geisha's shoulders are way way way way way too low, which makes them look very man-ish because (since they're so low) the muscle between her shoulder and neck ends up seeming very pumped and defined.

If he read Sun Tzu's The Art of War he might be able to use it to his advantage.
  • Dissapointed Guest · 3 weeks ago
Geisha are not prostitutes. Do some research.

Oiran were prostitutes, and there are distinct differences between a Geisha's clothing and an Oiran's clothing as well as their duties and positions. I really loved this comic until this point, because it only shows Western ignorance now.
  • Bobby Crosby · 3 weeks ago
You're the one who needs to do the research and also simply use the common sense portion of your brain. This has been discussed a hundred times in these comments, but here's a portion of a comment I just made on the latest page . . .

    --------------------------
It's one of the stupidest things ever to say that geisha are not prostitutes. As I said before, that's like saying priests don't molest children. Exact same logic. Do you people seriously think all geisha throughout history are PERFECT and never did anything wrong??? Once again --

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onsen_geisha
    ----------------------

Why would this scene possibly upset you? For one, the word "geisha" is never mentioned in the comic. For another, are you actually telling me that you think NEVER IN HISTORY, NOT EVEN ONCE, did a geisha work as a prostitute??? If so, you're completely out of your mind. And you can't even spell "disappointed," but you're complaining about Western ignorance because someone in the West actually has common sense and knows that not everyone in the world is perfect and always does exactly what they're supposed to at all times. I wonder what other things you might have a crazy misunderstanding about. Is it just about Japanese culture? Do you also think that no one in Japan has ever stolen a car maybe?
