Dreamless: DREAMLESS

    Page 35: Burn

I think he should keep the bar open and rename it The General's Happy Drinking Place.
  • Lis · 2 months ago
The General's Happy Drinking Place would be great! He could partner up with Takashi's friends and provide beer and geisha entertainment.

    That said, poor guy. :(

So much for all the wild theories of secret birthdays, kidnappings and rape. Back to the logical finding of her father. Still, interesting that he chose her birthday of all days to buy the joint and burn it down... Thats one hell of a birthday candle *lol*

I wonder how long ago it was that he decided to take up drinking. You'd think his wife's death and Elanor's retreat into her dreams with Takashi might have been it but I only seem to recall mention of him retreating into his work, eventually rising to the status of General. I guess it might have taken her sometime to notice considering how withdrawn she is, but then again maybe he cracked sometime after her 13th. You reach the top of your career and suddenly there's nowhere to keep working towards so you find the next outlet.

I'm actually liking the thought that Elanor and her father might actually open up to each other for once and she might finally get a feel for how deeply he really does love and need her together with how badly the death of her mother shook him up. Heh, the funny thing is that this could really turn Elanor around from leaving him alone to be with Takashi. Still worried about what Captain America's presence could mean but then I still like the guy for actually ripping Elanor out of her little dream world there.

You should all listen to Coldplay's 'Rush of Blood to the Head' while reading this page, it fits amazingly well (but is a total coincidence!) :D

I love the worn look on the General's face. You can barely see his eyes, but if you strain enough you can still see the grief in them.

Loving it, semi disappointed with the turn of events for Ellie, but still loving it :3

Shouldn't he be saying "I'm the owner" as opposed to "The owner..."?
  • Bobby Crosby · 2 months ago
Why? He heard the guy ask about "the owner" and he's now repeating that ("the owner") while thinking about it, possibly with a sad little laugh.
  • Alise · 2 months ago
God Bobby, you're breaking my heart. And totally setting it up for more heart break further into the story. Not sure I'll be able to stand it when we get there, but it would be incredibly silly to stop reading an incredible story just because I'm worried it'll get a little bad.

Man, what a birthday this is turning out to be. Poor Eleanor and Takashi...

Mostly, poor General. D= He definitely needs his Happy Drinking Place!

I kinda guessed you wouldn't go the dramatic "rape, kidnap, murder schemes, misunderstandings!" route, and am glad that you did not. This is a beautiful page and you can almost HEAR the sorrow and... and /pain/, in the General's voice.

Bought your book, I'm really excited! I like this comic a whole lot, so thanks for taking your time and making it great and beautiful!

Here I have the surprise (her father!), I guess it's still her birthday, and there's the party(group) of three... So I had my surprise birthday party anyway. x) I wonder if Elanor will go and face her father now.

Wonder if Elanor overheard enough of the reason to be sympathetic, or maybe even touched. I mean, it's her birthday and he *did* go missing, a bit, but the whole thing was because he's concerned about losing Elanor to his drinking problem. So he has to care for her quite a bit, even if he's not very good at showing it.

Then again, she might not've heard anything and just be pissed that he vanished (again) and turned up at the bar, drinking (assumedly - again). D: Either way, I'm sure it's an interesting eyeful for Takashi.

I totally love the artwork. You can feel the sadness, not only in the general, but in the surprised look of the private there when the general tells him he bought the pub.
Elanor's silhouette looks as if she's thinking "Oh dad, you're not drinking again, are you?" which I love. I wish I could draw like that, but so far I'm not a brush stroke past imagined flowers :p

This is a wonderful story, with beautiful artwork.
Keep up the great work you two!!

Heh,today's update is riddled with melancholy and anguish.I wonder what brought about this sudden change to do good by his daughter? Probably because he knows how he's always acted is what drove his wife away.

Just a question, I'd love to buy Dreamless in printed form but are there any plans for future printings of the story in a more substantial form that comic issues? Nothing against paperback style comics, I just feel that this story and illustration quality would be fantastic in a bound book style, especially as the story progress and becomes longer or even once the story is finished, you know like a complete works edition book.
I know of at least 1 webcomic that I started purchasing as individual comic book style pieces and then later it was released with essentially 4 comic vols published in a bound paperback (or hardcover) style edition. So I ended up buying parts of it twice in order to buy the nicer bound paperback version. In any case the point of this long round-about tale is I'd eagerly await buying Dreamless in a bound book longer arc/complete series format if such a thing is possible for the future.

"Wonder if Elanor overheard enough of the reason to be sympathetic"

It's my thinking that she heard everything. She walked in with the young guy, but her dad didn't even turn around, didn't look, and she stayed by the door. He doesn't know she's there.

"I wonder what brought about this sudden change to do good by his daughter? Probably because he knows how he's always acted is what drove his wife away."

He acted fine before her death. As he just said, he's only ever drank in this bar, and they moved to California shortly before his wife's death (that was also stated in the comic, forgot what page). He started drinking at some point after his wife's death. The "sudden change," if there is one (no need to assume it's sudden -- it's simply a more drastic attempt than before, we can assume), is because Elanor's 18 now and graduating soon, might leave and never see him again, and also because he's nearing the point where he could lose his very important job.

"are there any plans for future printings of the story in a more substantial form that comic issues?"

    Yes, that will definitely happen.

"I know of at least 1 webcomic that I started purchasing as individual comic book style pieces and then later it was released with essentially 4 comic vols published in a bound paperback (or hardcover) style edition."

Did that happen to be "Last Blood"?

I really like a lot this webcomic!
Love the way Mr. Crosby writes and Ms. Ellerton does the art. I want to do a comic one day, and you two are really an inspiration x3. Like very much too Takashi and Elanor's relationship.
Keep the great and beautiful work!

Sorry, it was "Looking for Group", although I do know and enjoy Last Blood.

I'm a relatively new reader, and this may have been brought up before or I'm too stupid and missed information--but, I keep thinking, maybe her father and mother met the same way Takashi and she did? They had the Dreamless problem and found eachother like Elanor wants to do with Takashi? And the father wants to try to have Elanor avoid the same problem (I had the thought that Elanor's mom told him about her chat with the doll).

That, or Elanor's mom did have a Dreamless lover other than the father, and is torn apart by the fact that she was with Elanor's father, but still loved the other man? I'm probably reading too much into what I think are subtle hints; I'm just gonna' assume that Elanor's mom is just haunted by her own non-supernatural problems...

Unless someone can tell me otherwise, of course! =)

I think Dreamless is only destined for 80 pages. Is that enough for a hardcover copy?

Heck I'd love to see a combined Last Blood Vol 1, Marry Me Vol 1 and Dreamless in a single book one day. Whats that? 270 pages? Throw in an exclusive cover and maybe even an exclusive short story from one of the artists and you've got yourself a good seller that will get buys from anyone who's a major fan of any of the stories or any of the artists themselves.

...I wonder if there would be enough people interested in a Patchtogether statue of the two of them together in an embrace to get sales. I'm pretty sure plenty of the Jonas and Anya statues sold when Sarah did it for TPR *shrug*
  • Bobby Crosby · 2 months ago
"Marry Me" was 91 pages and we printed a hardcover of that. There will definitely be a hardcover of "Dreamless." Probably won't ever print a combined book of multiple comics as you suggested. Statues are very possible, though.

Oh, yay! How wonderful for Eleanor. :) I hope this means family healing can begin!

Regardless of whether this sounds silly or not, the guy reminds me of Robyn and the girl in the photo reminds me a little of Petria from TPR ^__^ Just thinking aloud!

Rape/murder? I guess my imagination isn't dark enough. I figured that either Takashi was being drafted, or that perhaps imperial inteliigence had figured out what was going on and wanted to interrogate him.

Can i purchase it as well from Slovakia/Austria? Can you tell me how much would it be, please?

oh someone needs to take better care of their fingernails!!

Great work Mr. Crosby and Ms. Ellerton (but you know that)! Been a fan for a couple of years and don't intend to leave anytime soon.
