Here's my mouse drawn MS Paint sketch for this page!

    wow

Amazing job on this page. The third panel is gorgeous. The story's getting really interesting now.
  • Rachael · 9 months ago
You guys are both so awesome at what you do... It's a wonder you didn't pair up sooner.
  • John · 9 months ago
I'm curious as to what the mother's name is.

    Love the story so far!
  • Akaydia · 9 months ago
This story is coming out great and there is so much that you could do with this concept!
Have you thought about turning this into a TV series in addition to a movie?
  • Alise · 9 months ago
Aww, that's beautiful. Amazing job again. I was so excited when I saw that next button, I nearly squealed.
  • Lauren · 9 months ago
Takashi... Warrior. Hmm. He probably feels guilty for her mother's death... Awww....
That's... So terrible. Was it really suicide then? Looking like an accident? Did they lie to her? Because it feels like, from her phrasing... "I was told..."
Wow. <3 Simply amazing. Ellerton and Crosby as a combo? Unbeatable.
  • Reno · 9 months ago
Whoa! I knew that'd be his name for some reason :O

Amazing page, definitely pushes the story further, and the eye is gorgeous.
    I can't wait for next week's!!
  • halfwing · 9 months ago
    wow... thats so sad...
  • Em · 9 months ago
amazing job! I love the change in the warm color tones from the top panels to the cooler bottoms ones
great storyline so far too! :)
  • pale lady · 9 months ago
You know I remember reading a book when I was in junior high with a similar premise, only set modern and the boy was a europien prince. Also both of the children had narcolepsy during which they would be shareing the others life. Wish I could remember the name of the story.
  • Chloe · 9 months ago
Panel two is so beautiful. I mean, the whole page (and comic) is, but especially that one panel.
  • Sharon T Rose · 9 months ago
I imagine he feels somewhat to blame, since his relationship with her may have contributed to her mother's death. Then again, there could be any number of reasons we don't yet know!
I love that he dressed up so nice and formal for the funeral, even though no one there would see him. So polite! And so supportive of his friend across the sea. Good friedns are hard to find.
Keep up the fabulous work, both of you!

I cried. Honest. I read the very last line and then *bam* instant tears. The writing/wording/phrasing of everything so far has been amazing, and Sarah's art is just so powerful.

    Touching... :(

But what really happened...will we know?
  • charles81 · 9 months ago
Wow! You don't mess around, do you Bobby. Brutal, confronting and gripping stuff.

I take it thats Takashi's eye in the 3rd panel? Loving the move to him. and that 2nd panel is just heart-breaking. Beautiful work Sarah.

The question I'm asking, is why did finding out that she never did dream drove her to suicide (if it is suicide). Was she just naturally fearful, maybe believing Elanor is the devil? (First page seem to suggest the belief of her home country, so maybe.) Who knows what was running in her head that pushed her over the edge but she heard everything. (shadow, last frame page 10 and open door, last frame, page 9)

And young Takashi looks really handsome, a good partner to Elanor, who is just beautiful! :)

Maybe her mom didn't dream either, and commited because she passed on the ability to her daughter?
  • AdTheRat · 9 months ago
Sorry for the double post. Nothing happened on my end for a bit so tried again and then noticed it appeared. Sorry again =/
  • Benjie · 9 months ago
This page is quite amazing. Plain and simple.
  • Elicius · 9 months ago
Pure brilliance. I love everything about this page, but panels two and five, both writing and artwork....I think Lena said it best - Just plain old 'Wow.'
  • Sarah Ellerton Fanboy. · 9 months ago
    Sarah Ellerton kicks A$$.
  • Amy · 9 months ago
Awww, Takashi is so sweet. The artwork as always is stunning.

You two are fantastic. I've been following your individual stuff for a few years, and now your teamwork is just mind-blowing. Keep it up, both of you.
  • amanka · 9 months ago
woow I really like both artwork and plot idea!
  • Linden · 9 months ago
    Oh, poor dear. =(

    Can't wait to see more.
  • Spirit · 9 months ago
Or maybe the mother was already a highly unstable person, and listening to a child's blunt perspective on her illness ("why does mommy get to have imaginary friends?") only compounded that reality for her. Having a daughter who also claims such a strong bend in reality might have simply represented one more way in which she isn't sure what is real or not. I'm still of the opinion that the mother didn't have the dreamless gift, because screaming at people who aren't there is nothing like what Elenore experiences.

The second panel clearly jumps to a different time of day, though, so we don't know for sure that there was any direct relation between the mother overhearing her and her mother's suicide. This could be a few days, weeks, or months later than the scene with the doll.

Either way, beautiful page. Brilliant transition into Takashi's side of the story.
  • Leah · 9 months ago
This tuned out so beuitfully, as eveyone can see. It was worth the extra week.
  • Nina · 9 months ago
Lord, that eye is beautifully done.
  • Anon · 9 months ago
I have to disagree with Spirit. This transition felt rather abrupt and confusing. I hope Bobby's not trying to rush the story. Is that the doll, Elizabeth, in the first panel? Because for a moment I thought it was the mother in a casket. I really expected to see more of the mother's personality. She's only had a few lines, perhaps some notable facial expressions, and most of what we know about her is Elanor's description when talking to her doll, and her father's general overprotective attitude towards her mother. I never really got the sense that her mother was crazy. Bobby seemed to emphasize that point, so I expect there's still more to come about her.

But anyway, I'm still a big fan. Can't wait to see what Takashi's like.
  • Bobby Crosby · 9 months ago
    Minor spoilers: Spirit is correct.

"I hope Bobby's not trying to rush the story."

I tell stories in a fast way in general, which is why some of the early criticism about "Dreamless" being too slow paced was very odd to hear. I try to leave out the boring crap.
  • Courtney · 9 months ago
I've seen a few comments that perhaps Takashi felt guilty over Elanor's mother's death. I got the impression more that he was closer to Elanor's family than she herself was. I'd imagine the reverse would be true - if anything happened to Takashi's family, I think it would hit Elanor harder than losing her own family might. I don't know if Takashi feels the same way - if he cares equally for his family and for Elanor's - or if he feels closer to Elanor's family than his own; but I definately get the impression that whatever Elanor "dreams" (or rather, doesn't) is more important to her than what happens when she's awake.
  • Jackie · 9 months ago
incredible sadness.........T_T its saddens me how some people cant accept that there children are special..........
  • Kamu · 9 months ago
An amazing page. Takashi has finally appeared. I hope to see his side of the story soon. Sarah really drew him well, you can tell his ethnicity apart wonderfully, its a shame she doesn't have much of a chance to express this in her comic.
  • Bobby Crosby · 9 months ago
"I've seen a few comments that perhaps Takashi felt guilty over Elanor's mother's death."

Thanks for reminding me to comment on that: He wouldn't feel guilty because he doesn't know that Elanor's mother overheard her, just like Elanor doesn't know (didn't see her).

I pretty much agree with everything Courtney said.

"Because for a moment I thought it was the mother in a casket."

Eyes open. How creepy. I think it's pretty clear at a glace that it's the doll,w hat with the hair color.
  • Danith Daurkreign · 9 months ago
Not to mention the ribbon in the dolls' hair. Plus if it was a casket, Elanor's hand would be on the top half, not the bottom.

    And nice contribution, bunky.
  • Zilla · 9 months ago
Sigh. Akaydia, why exactly do you need to know their sleeping patterns? I think you're forgetting a very simple fact: they're human. And as such have entire control over their sleeping patterns, and are likely to change frequently. All you really need to know is who is sleeping/awake at a point something is happening in the story.

Beautiful page :) I thought Takashi staying home from school to be there for her mother's funeral was very sweet. The darker borders are a nice touch too considering the content. It was also very obvious to me it was the doll going into the draw in the first panel, especially when read straight after the previous page, I actually giggled when I read someone thought it looked like her mother :P sorry, heehee.
  • dragonmage06 · 9 months ago
    What a breathtaking page.
  • Brent · 9 months ago
    Wow.....nice page
  • Katy · 9 months ago
I love this page so much. I read it and it literally took my breath away.
Bobby and Sarah, you guys rock. :)
  • charles81 · 9 months ago
Its the doll going into the draw but I think its very symbolic of her Mother's death.

I get the impression that the Mother probably died that day simply because she said it was her last tea party with Elizabeth, which gave me the impression she was going away (maybe to boarding school)
  • akaydia · 9 months ago
I don't need to see it; I was just wanted to know because I was curious (and I'm a bit geek :P). I also thought that it would make an interesting discussion. Although I do admit, the way that I posted it did seem a bit sketchy because the explaination got caught off. :(

I was just wanted to know what their average day might be like when they were in elementary school. If what I posted is true than it would mean that when they were elementary school- they spent most of their time together watching each other’s life at school. Just imagine have to sit through almost an entire school day twice in one day when your 8 years old! Talk about cram school! I just assuming that since at this point in time their parents were probably enforcing a bedtime and these two kids were forced to go to school at a certain time. The schedule is more of a predicted average. But Zilla you are correct in that it probably would change frequently- especially when they are older. But its still a fun thing for me to think about.

Any ways so far the writing is and great and artwork is gorgeous. I can't wait for the next update!
  • B3X · 9 months ago
Oh, this was gorgeous. I felt my stomach sink a little - great writing, wonderful visual execution. I like the last panel the best - he's in the same pose as Elizabeth when she's getting pushed in the drawer.

Personally, I think Takashi's taking it harder /because/ he's not physically a member of the family. It's like reading a great book/series/movie; while you as the reader are not taking part in the action at all, you become emotionally invested in the characters. When one of them dies, it hits you. If I could attend the funerals of Sirius Black from Harry Potter, or Scar from The Lion King, I would. You may not agree with my character choices, but you can probably find a parallel in books you've read/movies you've seen.
  • Graceofbass · 9 months ago
Elanor seems more cold and distant than Takashi. Maybe a better word to describe it is detached. She doesn't take the news of losing her mother like other little girls would, and she's surprisingly precocious. I'm excited to see if we get to know more about Takashi now, and how his family reacted to his dreaming.
  • KEdakumi · 9 months ago
Beautiful art and a great story. Did any of you notice that Monday never seems to come fast enough?
  • Persephoniii · 9 months ago
I'm wondering if Takashi and Elanor are actually switched. Like, perhaps Takashi really belonged in Elanor's family, and Elanor was supposed to be in Takashi? Perhaps this is why it hit him so hard? On a side note, BEAUTIFUL job on this page. It's so gorgeous and realistic...the third and fifth panals are my favorite.
  • ER · 9 months ago
I love the fact that my favourite webcomic author and my favourite webcomic writer have teamed up without my even realising it. And! that they are writing a story idea that I've actually had myself, ah the joys of collective unconcious brain crack.
  • ER · 9 months ago
Gah webcomic artist not writer... fever delirium.
  • hchano · 9 months ago
Augh, I get so impatient for the updates on this comic. It is worth the wait tho. :<

ew..i have to put in my email addy to comment...? *use junk mail one >>*
  • Asj · 9 months ago
I like the Takashi part most, I think. (although I also like the close-up of the eye, but I can't tell if I like the art or the idea most...) I went to my grandmother's and grandfather's funerals, but I didn't cry at either one (my dad cried at my grandmother's funeral - well why not, she was his mom - but I don't remember him crying afterward), so for Takashi to cry so much and really want to go to her mother's funeral, even though she wasn't really his family, makes it sound as though he really cares a lot.
Hmm... Takashi must know it's as real as his life... I wonder if he's ever told anyone, especially his parents, and if not, what they thought of him crying so much and how he could keep it from them.
  • Arisa · 9 months ago
Now, that is depressing. Poor little Takashi. So sweet of him to skip school just to go to Elanor's mother funeral. I don’t know what else to say about it.
I just have to say that this story gets better every time I read the following page.
  • Elle · 9 months ago
Wow... That's some wonderful script work Bobby :D I am amazed by your talents XD You and Sarah both!

I wonder how Elanor's Mother died... And why do I get the impression that there is some kind of personality switch going around between Elanor and Takashi?
  • Krulle · 9 months ago
    Love it. Thanks you both.
For me, the current story part feels like the rush to bring over the background story.
Later, the story will slow down, when things are happening.
In comparison to other comics, there simply are no captions telling you "five years later..."
You have to read it from the context.

Anyway, thanks Bobby, and Kudos to both artists!
  • Tim · 9 months ago
Since this has been happening to both of them since birth, it also means each is fluent in the language and culture of two countries. Technically, both Elanor and Takashi have had 2 distinct lives. Fascinating. I am really going to enjoy coming here on Mondays to follow this intriguing story.

The artwork is enchanting... one could even say it has a dreamlike quality. It is both realistic, but the edges are softened; it reminds me of my own dreams. Fantastic job on both the writing and the artwork... your collaboration is perfect, as if the story was being written and illustrated by the same person.
  • Hannah · 9 months ago
Takashi is so cute and sweet! I agree with Courtney as well, I don't see Takashi as being guilty, more that he really cares a lot for Elanor and her family. Did I spell Elanor's name right?
