Actually, the "<,>" symbols are typical comic indication of a foreign language, common in DC or Marvel comics. (one or both, don't remember exactly but know it is used in one of those very profusely) so not specific to megatokyo.
Just thought I would comment on that, not meaning to insult you or anything so don't take this wrong. This is just what I know/think. Ignore at will.

that's more of a standard comic thing. Most comics will use brackets to "translate" things not spoken in the comic's main language

he's being kidnapped to go to the army. although japanese laws do not recognize you as an adult until you are 20, the laws in the 1940s might require enlistment when you turn 18. i dunno, just my theory.

The last strip started out with Takashi saying he couldn't stay up any longer. So yes, I'm sure he fell asleep so he could watch Eleanor, but it sounds like he was just exhausted as well.

I dunno about the recruitment into the army thing. It seems likely that's going to happen at some point, but why would they need to kidnap him in such a way? I would think they'd just come to his door and if necessary take him by force, but not this sneaking around stuff. There's something more to this, even if it is a military-related kidnapping. Maybe they know something is different about him.

The story and the artwork are so amazing.<3 Makes you hate having to wait, though TT.TT'' Personally, I kind of am thinking that if he /pretends/ to be asleep, they'd be letting their guard down into talking. Wouldn't that be what someone would do?

I agree with Bay, "He's just turned 18, and he got a phone call about all his dreams coming true...", so ixnay on the military abduction theory. I'm not convinced that he's strip club/gheisha bound, although it could be, but this just has to be related to the phone call somehow.
If he was opposed to signing up, that would be one thing, but he went on the pre-enlistment oriented swim in the cold ocean and showed what everyone else thought was just heart, so I don't see why anyone would feel a need to abduct him except asa friendly hazing gag.

Has anyone thought of the fact that he's asleep becuase there was a bag over his head. You can suffacate that way. considering that he was scared he probably hibervilated and passed out. If they didn't take the bag off when they noticed he wan't moving he very well could have died from lack of air...sorry to take the romance out of it but this is jst my hunch.
I love this story don't get me wrong. I love the romance between Takashi and Elanor. it is such an intrersting and origanal tale. I look forward to the next part of the story. thank you both, sarah and bobby for this amazing story and art! i can only wish to have talent like yours. :)

Has anyone thought about the fact that Elanor's dad is missing, too? If I remember correctly, he in some way knew about Takashi... The only way of getting him for her would be a military operation, since Japan and the US are going to war.
A really interesting question would be, what do Elanor and Takashi dream of when they are together? It was quite a shocking experience for Elanor to sleep when Takashi was asleep...

I think desperate measures are being taken to find Elanor's dad. They're kidnapping him to get to her and make her participate. So his dreams are going to come true. He's going to meet Elanor, just not under the best circumstances.
That's an extreme prediction, sure, but makes some sense if you think about it. I can't wait till next Monday!

If they're looking for Elanor's dad at the bars, it's more likely that he might have a drinking problem, considering the war and his wife's suicide. Of course, going to bars was the thing to do for men in that era, so that's just speculation.
Even in the highly unlikely event that someone heard about Elanor and Takeshi, and more than that, believed them, they would have to learn the details about the other person in depth (full name, hometown, etc.) in order to track the other down. I'm pretty sure they've kept each other secret their whole lives, so there's just no way that anyone could connect them. "The guy who is sometimes heard speaking English to himself" doesn't exactly translate into "the guy with the psychic connection to an American girl."
I can't help but notice that the car is leaving the city, or at least the city's center. Very interesting.

Personally I think Elanor is out at the pubs looking for her dad but Takashi is going to misinterpret it as a date. If these really are his friends taking him out for an 18th Birthday party with a woman involved then he might feel bitter enough to do something silly with the girl just as Elanor's getting back home to finally get some sleep.
Worse case scenario. Japan is at war with China right now so if his father is a high ranking official it could be a serious kidnapping, but personally I think the phone call rules this out.
