That was something that the Japenese did a lot at this time (right before WWII). He might even be abducted to serve in the army, although generally the Navy did the most kidnapping.

Re: DREAMLESS

I've been reading this comic for sometime now,and i can say that i have fallen in love with the story and the art as well. I'm very picky when it comes to comics,i'll only read it if the art is good and i will only continue to read it if the story is as good as the art. At first when i noticed that this comic only updated on Mondays i was a tad bit sad,but then i came to like the fact that it updates at the beginning of the week since it makes me want to re-read the rest of the comic.

Re: DREAMLESS

omgomgomg it's sunday new update tomorrow ><

Re: DREAMLESS

I think that, since it's his birthday, his dad enrolled him in the military. I heard that they use to do that in the war days. You need to reread this comic from the beginning. They do NOT communicate by thought. They spend their sleeping hours seeing through the other's eyes, hearing with their ears, feeling with their skin. But they can only communicate VERBALLY or by writing notes. That's why Takashi is talking out loud - so she'll know what's going on (if she's sleeping -- he has no way to know, other than pre-arranged sleep times. Though I imagine that over the years they've long since established a sleep pattern so they know the USUAL times the other will be asleep and watching.) Since he's been awake until much later than his normal sleep time - he probably knows nothing of this soldier's original approach to Elanor. Remember, that entire scene of him at the door took place while Takashi was on that sailboat -- he was awake and therefore unaware.

We are missing the "negotiations" between Elanor and that soldier-boy -- whatever he did to persuade her to accompany him to the bar happened "off camera." I am unsure if it's the same day. There's an 8-hour difference between California and Japan (plus a day, but that just confuses the issue...) so for him to be back "by noon" means he would be back by 8pm her time. It looks like sunset when she opens the door for the soldier-boy. The jeep scenes are oddly lit, so that could be "street lighting" or something. But for Takashi to say he "couldn't stay up anymore" implies that it's very late at night for him. So I'm really confused about the passage of time, here. If it's midnight to him, it would be 8am for Elanor...

Not to mention... what on earth did that boy do to convince Elanor to give him the time of day, let alone GO somewhere with him? Hmmm.

Re: DREAMLESS

Oh my God. The U.S.A. (United States Army) and the stars mark it as military.

The uniform insignia is all wrong. I can't even tell if he's a private or a junior officer. If that's a silver oak leaf on his collar in panel 4 then he is incredibly young to be a lieutenant colonel, and it belongs on his shoulder epaulet, not his collar, which should have a gold disk with US on it.

His hair... the only way he could have his hair that long is if he's part of the Signal Corps, is assigned to code-breaking duty, and they let him be eccentric because he's a genius at cryptanalysis, but that's a very long stretch.

And Elanor, an Army brat whose father works in military intelligence, would know all this.

Yes, I'm over-analyzing this.

Re: DREAMLESS

"All your dreams will come true tonight."

His friends are kidnapping him and taking him to a brothel. I hope he doesn't think she's like "cheating on him" if that's what you can call it at this point... and I'm nervous for him! But then again, it was their birthday. Maybe it's a birthday prank by Takashi's military bunk mates or whatever and the jerk guy is lying to her to get her out of the house so her father can set up a surprise birthday party? Or possibly they found out that he's been trying to contact an American? OR!! OOOOOOO!!! Maybe the dad went "missing" because he's been sent on a top secret military mission to kidnap the general's son which just so happens to be Takashi!! That would be an interesting way for them to meet! She springs him out of an American prison!
