Really good for a first time! And how old is Eleanor supposed to be?
  • Leise · 6 months ago
    That is one amazing-looking car!

How old is Elanor supposed to be now?
  • charles81 · 6 months ago
Looks Amazing. I guess Elanor's still on the fringes of the social circles.

I agree, the car is wonderful. So is the background in the first panel. <3
  • Paris · 6 months ago
B-E-A-Utiful. Love the color and style of the car. This must be the leap in time; I can't wait to see what Takashi is up to.
  • dc · 6 months ago
Considering that Elanor is more than likely still not big on social interaction with people she can in theory poke, I think it is super nice of whoever that chick is to invite her to go to the beach. Even if Elanor refused.

MORE PAGES!!!!! MORE PAGES!!! I LOVE IT!!!
  • charles81 · 6 months ago
I think I found the car. A 1940 Ford Convertable which gives us the year (unless the car is a year or more old *lol*)
    http://www.havasuclassics.com/images/1940_ford_...

This is just the Australian in me talking, but I find myself wishing Sarah had managed to slip a holden in there *lol* Not quite right for the U.S.

I spotted this with the trolly car on page 21 as well but I just want to note how wonderful it is to see all these 1940 items in near-new condition. You see all this stuff in films but they all look aged while these all feel like they're still brand spanking new for the time.
  • Carley · 6 months ago
I absolutely love that first panel, Sarah. It seems to have taken on the 'darker' dynamic of the scenes set in Japan, whereas Elanor's scenes used to be bright and colorful. It's interesting to see the change.

Beautiful job so far, guys - I can't wait to see where this is going!
  • Ashley · 6 months ago
So I just started reading this comic. Good, but it reminds me of a book I once read called Being of Two Minds. Had the same story, two kids born on the same day on opposite sides of the world, that spend time in each other's bodies when they are asleep.
A little different here, but basically the same so far.
    Good, though. I like it.
  • charles81 · 6 months ago
@Ashley: Yeah, I think someone else noticed that. It's a bugger 'cos I think Bobby relies on these concepts being fairly unique for producers to pick it up.

Granted, the story is about an American teenage girl with a psychic link to a foreign boy, but reading about the story, it sounds like there are some significant differences in the link. It seems to be brought on by dizzy spells that each of them experiences rather than sleep (i.e. I get the impression they still sleep normally). Each of them is also aware when the other is "present" in their mind.

But Bobby's story it's self is also gripping and far different. By beginning the story with such a cliff-hanger on page 4 we're all left hanging on for what Elanor saw. The other story also used a fairly routine kids tale of a prince getting kidnapped and the girl linked to him, helping to rescue him. Here we have almost a Romeo and Juliet tale between two people of different cultures with the impending knowledge that their nations are headed for war.
  • the_pale_lady · 6 months ago
YES!!!! I was thinking that too...in fact I wanted to re-read it after starting this comic.
  • Smoke · 6 months ago
I thought of that book too. Even if it's a similar concept, this seems less cutesy and more like it may lead to a tragedy.
  • caseykitten · 6 months ago
    haha everyone hates her XD
  • Ithanelin · 6 months ago
Aww, look at Elanor all grown up. What happened to her cute face? :(
Looking forward 'till next monday already!
  • XOrengenOX · 6 months ago
The car is done so well!
    Poor Elanor..
  • greengirl77 · 6 months ago
@ Ashley... yea I read about that story, not really all that similar as charles81 points out. Quite frankly it is absolutely different because it has a different type of link and point to the story imo. Also, Ellen and Takashi are not living inside one another's body they are simply watching it, seeing what the other person sees and feeling what they feel; seemingly in the other tale "living inside" would imply that one had control over the body. That is what I get from that tale anyhow.
I think Bobby will bring us into a completely un-thought of conclusion. We are basically getting the beginning of it so far. This is just Act 1 we haven't come close yet to the crescendo. I am eagerly awaiting each and every step because each one we see is pretty much amazing to me. I try not to postulate but I do cross my fingers for what I hope comes next. I still wish I could peek in Bobby's head so I can see where it is going.

    I love the car - can't believe it is the first one Sarah Ellerton has ever painted. It is even all shiny and reflective! In fact all the art is beautiful as ever. The first panel is so dark - love the clouds and water and well everything... Ok, I'll stop gushing. ^^;
I'm really interested in where this comic is going. Thanks Bobby and Sarah for the hard work. ^^
  • mike · 6 months ago
did'ja notice Elanor's reflection in the car? For me it emphasizes her loneliness among all her peers. Thanks Sarah and Bobby!
  • Chuck · 6 months ago
I love the reflection on the car!
  • Ryutso · 6 months ago
Timeskip! Now the questions are how far was the timeskip and what's the state of the two's World now?
  • Ted · 6 months ago
Yes, she's lost the youthful cuteness in the face but she is now a beautiful young woman.
  • jaded · 6 months ago
    cooll
  • charles81 · 6 months ago
Yeah, I thought that was a nice little touch of detail in just how reflective the car was, seeing the reflection of Elanor in it.

As for the first panel being dark. I guess it was sunset when she was out all that way, so it was probably dark by the time she got back to shore, but it does look very sad like that. Sort of like a portal of some sort has closed off and there's just a wall out there now, rather than a glimmer of hope at reachign each other that we saw in the last panel of page 23.
  • Zippy · 6 months ago
She looks to be anywhere between 17-20, late High School, early college I'd say. This is a beautiful page, I love her face on panels 1 and 4.
  • PinkPunkPill · 6 months ago
She doesn't need company. She's got Takashi 24/7.

Still, it's very sad that she's seen as a weird girl all the time.
  • jackalheart · 6 months ago
PinkPunkPill, I think the fact she is cut off from all of her peers just adds emphasis on how dependent she is on Takashi. That will just make the inevitable even more painful, when they are forever separated by their national differences. This is gonna be a tear jerker.
  • arasam22 · 6 months ago
is it just me, or does the art look different on this page?

it's not bad... just... seems different. maybe i'm going crazy. :D
  • trillium · 6 months ago
I can't wait to see what Takashi looks like at this age! Elanor's face in the last panel is really well done - you can see the discomfort she goes through whenever the thought of how separate she is from him comes up. Unfortunately for her, I'm thinking that it's pretty often.
  • Chameleon Kid · 6 months ago
And a very sah-WEET car it is, too! I love the setting for this comic. The lighting, the mood, the feel...
  • Lynz · 6 months ago
Wow, as usual, so gorgeous. One thing, in panel two the girl in green, her arm seems a little long. But the scenery, as I have come to expect from Sarah's talent, magnificent!
  • Anise · 6 months ago
The shading on panel four. Very dramatic, I like it.

I'm also ready for some non-narrated story, so I feel like this transition is well timed.
  • spas · 6 months ago
i am undisturbed by the similarity to another story and agree dreamless is still unique unto itself, undisturbed by green girl's arm which i think is proportionate, and extremely pleased once again with the art, which conveys precisely what it should, while blowing us out of the water with the lovely retro style and feel. like the pin-up of elanor too. i am disturbed by elanor's solitary lifestyle, which seems unhealthy...and helps us understand how the mother went nuts.
  • Lou · 6 months ago
Excellent job here, especially with the car. I love the old cars from the '40s and '50s.
My favourite panel on this page is the second-to-last one, just because of the little details.
    Hurrah for new updates!
  • greengirl77 · 6 months ago
    @ Lynz
The green sleeved person has part of their shoulder covered by the hair of the person they have their arm around. Also, the blue part of the sleeve may be causing your eye to think it is longer. It is in fact proportionate, it is an optical illusion that you are noting. It did not even register to me when I first looked at it and it took me a while to see what you were in fact seeing.
  • charles81 · 6 months ago
@Greengirl77: I made the same mistake as you at first but the green sleeve is actually the dress of the girl in the back left seat. The girl in the back right one does not have her arm around her. The girl in green is leaning on the edge of the car while the other girl is facing towards Elanor with her let sholder obscured by the girl in green. It's the dark dress that makes it hard to distinguish the end of her body with the beginning of the green dress girl's but also the angle the green dress girl is leaning.
  • Lynz · 6 months ago
Ahhhh!!! So it is an illusion, but not what we had thought! I can see it now! lol, took my eyes some time to separate the two people, but I am seeing it correctly now! Thanx!
  • AI · 6 months ago
I wonder what make and model that car is.
  • Oblivian · 6 months ago
I just started reading this, thought it'd gotten farther. I'm looking forward to reading more, it's a nice idea.

I don't know if it's because of the name, but something just makes me think of the PC-game "Dreamfall: The longest journey".. probably the name..

    //O.
  • Jessy · 6 months ago
Uh-oh, if this is set in the 1940s then that may mean her Japanese friend will have to fight against her or her father in the war later. I'm really looking forward to where you are going with this though :)
  • Jessy · 6 months ago
I mean her country, not herself. Women weren't allowed to fight back then.
  • Sarah Ellerton Fanboy. · 6 months ago
    I <3 Sarah Ellerton
  • Erika · 6 months ago
i dunno why but i dislike Elanor on the last page, she looks sort of.. weird..
  • Nora · 6 months ago
I love these last three pages. You can see the pain in their eyes when they're in the water... It's just beautiful.
  • Nelis · 6 months ago
I think she's the same age as the picture of her and Takashi on the home page, since she has the same hairstyle.
  • Westmoreland · 6 months ago
Holy shit. I thought Last blood and Marry me was good.
They were fantastic comics but dont even compare to this.
    Your previous work was fun.
    This is art.
    I love it.
  • Dray · 6 months ago
D: Oh man, I'm so into this comic, it was so jarring when I finally reached the most current image! Great painting and great story, wow! You're very talented. ^_^ Keep up the amazing work!
  • charles81 · 6 months ago
Speaking of Marry Me. There's a new page up and it involves knives... Aren't sharp objects always fun?

    http://marrymemovie.com/main/

I think Bobby twittered that he's got 3 pages of it out so we should be seeing a good run of Marry Me over the next few weeks. Sounds like he's on a roll with the comics of late. He keeps churning out these batches of 3 pages at a time.
  • TK · 6 months ago
It's so cute but so sat. I hope it has a happy ending.

So does this mean that we get 2 new pages on monday :P
  • Sarah Ellerton Fanboy. · 5 months ago
    Nope, not even one!
  • ComicGirl · 5 months ago
I'm not going to lie but this comic keeps disappointing me with its update promises that always seem to fall through. I love the art and if updates would happen regularly then I'm sure I could also love the story but there are just so many breaks between pages that it feels disconnected (unless I re-read the older pages every time there is an update).
  • Bobby Crosby · 5 months ago
Confused by the latest comments. There was a new page the next day just like I said. Are you not seeing the July 6 comic for some reason?

ComicGirl: I don't understand how people even read daily story comics without going back and re-reading the whole thing each time. It's not designed to be read one page at a time obviously. Wait a year and come back and read the whole thing if it bothers you so much, jeez. Did it piss you off a few weeks ago when we had three pages up in one week because we "promise" that it only updates every Monday? " . . . update promises that always seem to fall through." Yeah, "always," because we've only had 25 pages in 27 weeks for a weekly comic.
  • StephenVersus · 5 months ago
    apparently not Bobby.

from where I sit, it's like there hasnt been anything posted since the whole turned down invitation to the beach thing.

if it's a display error or something,
we'd all be super happy to see it fixed :]
  • Meg-Meg · 5 months ago
Erm... is this ever gonna update?
  • Bobby Crosby · 5 months ago
It's updated twice more since this page. Don't know why you can't find it. It's killing my soul.

Oh. I hate my PC -.-
